In the beginning of the last century Feodor Shalyapin moved to this
house with his wife, the Italian ballet dancer Lola Tornaghi.
For four years two sons were born in this house.
Rakhmaninov, Serov, Korovin and other members of art community were
welcomed guests in Shalyapin House.
After revolution Anna Akhmatova lived in the house.
Probably the cycle of poems «Black dream» was written there.
One of private rooms is named «Vasya Stalin's bedroom».
Competent persons tell, that he has residency in this house for some time.
Perhaps Vasya used to wake up with a hang-over in this room and look
at gold strips on pink wall-paper, while his adjutant was waiting for
instructions behind the door.
In Soviet period, various cultural institutions were situated in the
house. Chorus of old ladies sang , the heritage of singer Shalyapin
was investigated. Spoken by some objects remained in the house someone
practised massage and prepared for atomic war there.
After that the house went to private hands. New owner had paid for it
like for one-room apartment, but as he said he had bought only
building, and the earth belongs to the state. Probably thanks to this
reason the house yet hasn't burned down.
Real estate of this district of Moscow is one of the most expensive in
the world. At 90s art life had burned with a new force in the house, there as
well as hundred years ago it again had been sniffing cocaine and
discussing about the modern art.
We moved to Shalyapin house in September 2010. In that moment only one
person had been living in the house. Other roomshave been stuffed by
garbage and were not usable for living. Our friends began to visit us
and house life has been perked up. Step by step new visitors and
casual persons started to appear in the
house."
Shalyapin" has been waking up after not long sleep.
